Nylon - October 2008 - (Page 30) UNDER COVER: With sapphire eyes, raven hair, and rosy lips, Zooey Deschanel is a natural beauty. The actress and musician is also, according to photographer Hilary Walsh, “a charmingly silly character, so I didn’t want just plain ‘beauty shots’ of her. She has a very strong idea of her own style, so it must have been hard for her to allow someone else to dress her.” Not so. Deschanel, who showed up to the shoot at Pier 59 Studios West in Los Angeles wearing a vintage corduroy romper, delighted in a Chloé crochet patchwork silk dress, Chanel beaded headband, and Issa tulle-trimmed bloomers—laid out for her by stylist Christine Baker—so much that she pranced barefoot around the studio in them. Walsh envisioned an energetic shoot, so she and our cover star, who she describes as “down-to-earth, playful, and unselfconscious,” then took to the sun-splashed street, with Deschanel in Anna Sui high-waisted shorts and Sonia Rykiel lace-up platforms. The softly spoken Deschanel asked for just three things all day: a vegan sandwich, to take home a pair of Sabre pink-framed sunglasses, and to be shot wearing her new Obama campaign T-shirt (go to nylonmag.com to check out the pic). Done, done, and done. zooey deschanel beauty note Deschanel doesn’t need much assistance in the beauty department, so we kept things simple with a lightly lined eye and some long lashes, creamy pink blush, and a subtle lip stain— perfect complements to her tousled locks. for her look try Eyeshadow in Sable, Powder Blush in Well Dressed, Amplified Crème Lipstick in Well Dressed, Plushlash Mascara in Plushblack, Mineralize Skin Finish in Medium, Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Stubborn Brown.
