Nylon - October 2008 - (Page 58) jeans addiction 58 jeans of the month When the premium denim market exploded about a decade ago (remember when $250 jeans became the norm?), True Religion was one of the major players, not for hard-to-find washes or antique denim sourced from far-flung corners of the globe, but for—pardon our frankness—ass-flattery. The company—founded by Jeffrey Lubell in 2002— made ’70s-style denim (most notably, the low-rise boot cut) its signature, along with loud contrast stitching and a horseshoe logo emblazoned on the back pockets. Anyone looking for an instant derriere lift followed the lead of unwitting brand ambassadors like Jessica Alba and Beyoncé, who regularly donned pairs. And with a company mantra of “timeless, hippie, bohemian, chic,” True Religion has built a cult following of girls lusting after that laid-back, Cali-babe vibe. For fall ’08 they are introducing the Disco jean in blue, black, and white stretch denim with clear and gold Swarovski crystals on the buttons and rivets—a style that a back-in-the-day Bianca Jagger surely would have approved of. The brand is also launching the streamlined Rockstar jean, which plays up your natural curves with its tromp l’oeil pockets—perfect for drawing attention to your, um, assets without the added bulk. These second-skin jeans may look super tight, but a four-way, Lycra-aided stretch lets you twist and turn, allowing for the most bad-ass stage moves.
