It’s a warm and sunny day in Dublin, Ireland, and everyone in the streets on this picturesque Friday afternoon seems to be in a particularly good mood. The savory aroma of food wafts out from restaurants, and the thoroughfare is lined with unique shops and lively pubs. Everything is so bizarrely perfect that I can’t help but think that this is not the Dublin I had in mind. I always imagined it to be gray, rainy, and, to be honest, boring. But I quickly realize that what I’m seeing is the Dublin that not many people outside of, well, Dublin know—a forward-thinking, often sunny, extremely beautiful and festive city. Powerscourt Townhouse Shopping Centre, South William Street, Dublin 2 GRUEL get in my belly! This is healthy, hearty, delicious fare at its best. Located in the middle of town, this cozy restaurant is all about fine dining without a whiff of pretentiousness. Try the French toast with bacon and berry compote, or the mushroom, leek and parmesan tart. 68a Dame Street, Dublin 2 Ever wonder what it would be like to have an amazing closet filled with goodies like ’20s dresses, top hats, grandma handbags, over-sized Dior sunglasses, and sequined blazers from the ’80s? Open since 2001, it’s a record store, gallery—you can buy graffiti canvases by local artists—clothing store, and music label.
