It begins with your cell phone losing reception, is followed by losing track of the time, and, much later, by the reminder that there are many more stars in the sky than you might have believed, up until now. The most secluded option on Paws Up’s 37,000 acres are the luxury tents at River Camp, which are nestled next to a bank of the Blackfoot River. Here, Paws Up captures the best aspects of camping—great views, fresh air, bonfires—and remedies the inconveniences with wood floors, fully furnished interiors, and luxurious bathrooms. Perhaps the best thing about the resort is the abundance of ways every guest can spend their time—either packing each day full of activities like horseback riding, ATV touring and kayaking, or taking a simply relaxing approach and visiting the “Spa Town” (which is also tented). If you stay in River Camp, you’ll even have a butler and chef awaiting your arrival each evening. MALLORY RICE pawsup.com WE’VE TRAVELED FROM COAST TO COAST TO FIND THE BEST HOTEL ROOMS IN AMERICA (HEY, SOMEONE HAD TO DO IT). SUNSET MARQUIS LOCATION: Los Angeles, California ROOM TO ASK FOR: The Presidential Villa This is Hollywood deluxe at its most outrageous and the place to stay for grand-style, L.A.-type ridiculousness. (The Red Hot Chili Peppers have reportedly swan-dived off the roof—naked, of course.) The Presidential Villa is the absolute pinnacle as far as luxe L.A. living goes: At 3,200 square feet, it dwarfs any number of actual, permanent residences. It’s Mediterranean-ersatz (as only southern California lodging can be); expect a private garden, full-sized kitchen, private cinema, office (with iMac), fridge full of happiness (anyone for caviar?), butler (the incomparable François Martin), and landscaped terrace. Not enough space? Combine it with a neighbor to form a fourbedroom mansion. There’s no better place to hole up while recording the next album.
