Make this the summer you see Niagara Falls! Until you experience it for yourself,
you can only imagine its grandeur and power. In Niagara Falls State Park, you
can sail up to the Falls on the Maid of the Mist, take a wild walk on a Cave of the
Winds tour, or savor panoramic views at the Top of the Falls restaurant. Nearby,
Lewiston’s breathtaking Whirlpool Jet Boat Tour ranks as one of North America’s
Top 5 Adventure Rides!
Hiking and bike trails weave between 600-foot cliffs and around sparkling waterfalls along the 17-mile-long gorge at Letchworth State Park, called the Grand
Canyon of the East. High above the Niagara River Gorge, Artpark presents outdoor
concerts and festivals June through August. Darien Lake Theme Park features
thrilling coasters, waterslides and special events all summer. Lockport Locks and
Erie Canal cruises showcase America’s historic waterway. Every July, the Canal
Fest of the Tonawandas celebrates canal heritage with music, fireworks and
other festivities.
The region borders two Great Lakes—Erie and Ontario—offering world-class
boating and trophy fishing. On a bluff above Lake Ontario, Old Fort Niagara
brings history to life with colorful pageantry and events commemorating the 200th
anniversary of the War of 1812. Other heritage sites include Murphy Orchards
and the Castellani Museum highlighting Underground Railroad history.
Buffalo’s cultural treasures include Frank Lloyd Wright architecture, opulent
theaters, the Burchfield-Penney Art Center, and the Albright-Knox Gallery. Stroll
through a wild rainforest at the Buffalo Zoo, or the Botanical Garden’s 1897 glassdomed conservatory. Taste regional specialties at historic Broadway Market and
the Anchor Bar, where Teressa Bellissimo cooked up the original recipe for Buffalo
Wings. With over 80,000 annual guests, the National Buffalo Wing Festival on
Labor Day weekend is the world’s most popular celebration of the chicken wing!
