Nostalgic summer pleasures and unique thrills await you amid “enchanted” mountains,
picturesque waterways, and bountiful vineyards. Discover great outdoor adventures like
trophy fishing in Lake Erie, and one-of-a-kind attractions like the Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz
Center, where visitors from around the world celebrate America’s First Couple of Comedy.
This region is full of homegrown flavor. Along the scenic Lake Erie Wine Country trail,
more than 20 wineries offer tours and special events. Follow New York’s Amish Trail to
more than 100 shops with farm-fresh produce and hand-made crafts, from quilts to furniture.
Take a wild ride on the new Mountain Coaster at Holiday Valley Resort or swirl past
rugged cliffs and waterfalls on the mighty Cattaraugus River, with the Zoar Valley Canoe
& Rafting Company. Allegany State Park has miles of nature trails, sandy beaches and
hundreds of cabins and campsites. For spectacular views, climb the high bluffs at Lake
Erie State Park. Hike amid towering rock formations at Rock City Park and Panama
Rocks Scenic Park. Follow meandering trails around 250 monumental sculptures at Griffis
Sculpture Park’s 400-acre nature preserve.
Chautauqua Institution features world-class performances—from classical music and opera
to pop and comedy—in a lakeside Victorian village. Over the nine-week season, June 22
to August 25, more than 170,000 visitors will discover its charms. Music flows all summer
at the Bemus Bay Pops Concert Series presenting free performances on a giant floating
stage every Sunday afternoon. Other events include the Great Wellsville Balloon Rally
in July. And remember, this is western New York. Whoop it up at the annual Ellicottville
Championship Rodeo in July and the Gerry Rodeo in August!
