ROAD CONDITIONS AND RULES OF THE ROAD
* For travel and traffic information, go to 511ny.org
or call 511.
* For roadside assistance call 911 or look for instructions
posted on some highways.
* Seat belts are required in NYS for all front seat
passengers regardless of age and rear seat passengers
under 16 years of age.
* An appropriate child safety restraint system is
required for all children until their 8th birthday.
It must meet the size and weight requirements for the
child based on the Federal requirements and the
recommendations of the manufacturer. This can be
a child safety seat, a harness, a vest or a booster seat
attached with the vehicle seat belt or latch system.
It should not be used in the front seat of the vehicle.
If the child is eight years old or more and is under 4'9"
tall or weighs less than 100 lbs, it is recommended that
you continue to use a child restraint system.
* Only passenger vehicles are permitted on NYS
parkways. Trucks, utility vans and other commercial
vehicles are prohibited.
* Use of handheld cellphones is prohibited while
operating a motor vehicle in NYS.
* New York State Thruway E-Z Pass information:

* Pedestrians have the right of way in crosswalks.
When traffic controls are not in place, or inoperative,
drivers of motor vehicles must yield to pedestrians
entering or crossing within a crosswalk.
National Scenic Byways are transportation
corridors of particular nationwide interest.
National Scenic Byways are designated by the
United States Department of Transportation's
Federal Highway Administration.
