COOL CATCHES: From the Atlantic Ocean to Great Lake Erie, New York's world-class winter ﬁshing lures anglers from near and far! Winter anglers catch a variety of ﬁsh- perch, pickerel, northern pike and walleye-in waters across New York. The lower Niagara River, one of the best winter trout ﬁsheries on the continent, has brown trout; rainbow trout (including steelhead); lake trout; and Atlantic, Chinook, Coho and pink salmon. Trophy-sized steelhead winter in the warmer rapids of Great Lakes tributaries. In the Thousand Islands-Seaway region, the Salmon and Oswego rivers boast spectacular ﬁshing, as do large streams like the Genesee, Oak Orchard and Black River. The deepest Finger Lakes seldom freeze.
