[CONTRIBUTORS] Regarded as one of New York's most versatile photographers, NELSON BAKERMAN (“The Sky's the Limit”) began shooting construction in 1988 and has since documented signature projects like The New York Times building and much of downtown Brooklyn. Bakerman's conceptual work can be found at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, The City of Paris Collection, and the International Center of Photography (ICP), and he teaches portraiture and lighting at Long Island University and ICP. JUDE STEWART (“The Life Aquatic,” “The Glass is Greener”) writes regularly about design and culture for publications including Slate, I.D., Metropolis, The Believer, Print, and other magazines, as well as BusinessWeek.com. After spending a year as a European Journalism Fellow at the Free University of Berlin, she now resides in New Haven. Read more at www.judestewart.com. In 1980s New York, anything seeemed possible. Photographer ANDREW KIST (“The Life Aquatic,” “Meet the Neighbors”, “The Prep Handbook”) proved that theory when he began a career in professional photography at age 13. His assignments have taken him from the Halloween after-party in Greenwich Village to the top of Mount Rushmore. Wherever you find him, he’ll be shooting revealing portraits of unique characters. JEN RENZI (“Meet the Neighbors”) is a freelance writer based in New York. Previously a senior editor at House & Garden, she has written for the The Miami Herald and Surface, T: Men’s Fashion, and Interior Design magazines. Jen is currently producing a book on tile design for Clarkson Potter. RUTH ALTCHEK (“Your Sensitive Side”) is a senior editor of Domino, where she is responsible for the popular new magazine’s renovation projects and green coverage. She has also written for The New York Times and has held editorial positions at I.D. and Art on Paper magazines. She lives in Brooklyn. KEVIN LERNER (“Man With a Plan”) is a freelance journalist who has written about architecture, Coney Island, and George Steinbrenner.
