SUNY Orange Viewbook - (Page 10) ACCESS b rA nChin g out SUNY Orange is expanding to meet the needs of its growing student body. For nearly 60 years, SUNY Orange has held classes on its Middletown campus, but since the early 1990s, the College has also established an academic presence in the City of Newburgh. Presently, the College is designing and building a new campus in Newburgh, at the site of the current Extension Center. This branch campus, when established, will be a degree-granting campus, where students enrolled in a variety of our academic programs will be able to take all of their classes in Newburgh without having to commute to Middletown. State-of-the-art laboratories, a new and totally “green” building (Kaplan Hall), expanded course offerings and a full slate of student support services will be among the new amenities greeting students when the branch campus officially opens (tentatively set for 2010). To help students commute between the Newburgh Extension Center and the Middletown campus, the College operates a free shuttle bus service. The branch campus project is the latest demonstration of SUNY Orange’s commitment to its students, and to providing you with classes that are easily accessible, wherever you may live in Orange County and beyond. S urr ou nded bY beAutY Don’t let SUNY Orange’s city address fool you. The Middletown campus is located on the beautiful and picturesque grounds of a historic estate. The 37-acre campus boasts 14 buildings, including the turn-of-the-century Morrison Hall, which is crafted with antique wood carvings, mosaic work, stenciling and a Tiffany stained glass window. With its finely manicured landscaping, cozy confines and contemporary functionality, the SUNY Orange campus has become a comfortable and safe second home to students who seek academic challenge, friendship and lively activity. Once you step onto our campus, you’ll instantly feel as if it was designed specifically for you. b uilding F or the Future As the College adapts its academic programs to meet today’s standards and address tomorrow’s needs, it must also look to the future with regard to its facilities. Recently, SUNY Orange opened the Gilman Center for International Education. Springing from the College Library, the new Gilman Center will help SUNY Orange prepare students to take advantage of exciting opportunities provided by changes in the local, regional and global workplace. It will also serve as a teaching hub for courses in Global Studies, continue to attract important speakers to campus and showcase former Congressman Benjamin A. Gilman’s outstanding accomplishments both at home and abroad. The Center will also provide educational resources to students, scholars and community members seeking to learn more about the global environment and the international role of the United States. SUNY Orange is also in the early stages of planning a new Science, Engineering and Technology Center that will be built on the current site of the Sarah Wells Building. This new facility, when complete, will bring many of the College’s computer, design and science programs together under one roof, where they will be supported by the latest in laboratory and technological innovations. 10
