Our health professions instructors have “clinical” experience, our criminal justice professors have “walked the beat” as law enforcement and security personnel, our biology professors have “gotten their hands dirty” in the field, and our business instructors have succeeded in the “corporate jungle.” But, there is one other element SUNY Orange professors bring to the classroom: teaching excellence. Our faculty members have been cited for their work on the local, regional, national and international levels. We have a prestigious Fulbright Scholar and a National Endowment for the Humanities Scholar, as well as numerous recipients of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, on our faculty roster. But, at the end of the day, it will be your practical, on-the-job experience that will separate you from other contenders in the job market. We can “tell” you how, but we prefer that you “learn” how. The College’s growing Office of Career and Internship Services, in cooperation with many of the academic departments, is continually seeking to expand the availability of internships to help round out your educational experience. In addition, SUNY Orange is committed to providing additional “experiential learning” opportunities. For example, accounting students have assisted community members with filing their taxes, engineering students have developed a solar-powered car, biology students participate in local water monitoring and art students learn the business side of art by partnering with local artists. If you are interested in one of the College’s eight health professions programs, you can be assured of the highest-quality clinical experience available. Gone are the days where lectures and term papers fulfilled your educational obligations. At SUNY Orange, you’ll be immersed in every aspect of your chosen academic program, and you’ll graduate with a firm grasp of the “tools of the trade.” le Arning l AborAtorieS Have you ever wished you could “try it before you buy it?” At SUNY Orange, our state-of-the-art laboratories will put you in touch with the latest technological and educational tools so that you can expand and fine-tune your skills before you graduate or tackle an internship. Through partnerships with local businesses and organizations, the College has been able to develop its Frontier TechLab (for telecommunications students) and a new video-teleconferencing room in the Library. Sparkling labs for architecture and cyber security, as well as updated computer laboratories to supplement the activities of many academic departments, are sprinkled throughout campus as well. The College Library has even been converted into a true “learning laboratory” thanks to the completion of its Information Commons, a 60-computer information hub that unites students with the technological and learning resources necessary to maximize their educational experience.
