Roblee meets with chapter members to discuss their shared vision for improving community health care. ONS Chapters Receive Funding for Community Programs The ONS Foundation awarded grants to 10 chapters and their community programs in a Deal or No Deal–like game during the 2007 ONS Mentorship/ Leadership Weekend. The Intermountain (UT) Chapter won the grand prize, a $1,000 grant, for its 2007 Utah Cancer Survivorship Summit. The chapters receiving $500 grants were • Florida Space Coast Chapter: Oncology Palliative Care Conference • Greater Tampa Chapter: Reach for the Stars: Navigating Your Way Through the Cancer Journey • Lake County Florida Chapter: Oncology Emergencies for All • Lanier Georgia Chapter: Traveling BEACONs (Breast Exam and Cancer Education Oncology Nurses) • Los Angeles Chapter: Exploring the Concept of Burnout in Oncology Nurses: A Pilot Study • Metro Detroit Chapter: Lung Cancer Prevention, a youth-oriented, tobacco use prevention, education, community outreach, and multifaceted collaborative venture • New Orleans Chapter: Cervical Cancer Prevention and Early Detection— The Who, What, Where, When, How, and Why? • New York City Chapter: Putting Evidence Into Practice®: The New York City Chapter Gets Some PEP! • Wiregrass (AL) Chapter: Romano Phillips Memorial OCN® Scholarship Fund. 14 ONS CONNECT provided our chapter with the opportunity to share our work, goals, and objectives with other organizations in our community,” Roblee says. “As a bonus, our chapter has also presented poster sessions at ONS Congress on the outreach programs.” By recognizing and addressing community needs, ONS chapters have the opportunity to collaborate with other organizations to implement creative outreach programs and grow a real presence in their service areas, giving back to the community and fostering quality cancer care. ✱ ONS.
