ONS Connect - March 2008 - (Page 32) Explore the City of Brotherly Love During ONS Congress [By Laura Milligan, RN, MSN, FNP, BC, AOCN ®, 2008 Congress Team Chair] he ONS 33rd Annual Congress will be held May 14–18 in Philadelphia, PA. Steep yourself in history while rejuvenating your spirit with colleagues who share your passion for oncology nursing. This year’s conference will provide something for everyone. For those who need to fine tune their oncology core competencies, sessions will cover metabolic and structural emergencies. Those sessions will be especially useful for nurses who are study- T ing for a certification exam or who may be new to oncology nursing. Other sessions will explore the fundamentals of oncology for beginning and advanced clinicians, including cancer prevention, nutrition, skin care, and pain management, to help enhance bedside patient care. Look for special sessions that highlight the environment of care, including program development and designing cancer clinics. We invite you take a fresh look at content that will expand your role and positively impact those around you. Fine tune mentorship or precepting skills essential to integrating novice professionals. Pre-Congress sessions will focus on pharmacotherapeutics and complemen- tary and alternative medicine. The sessions seek to expand understanding and knowledge about medications and supplements our patients may be interested in, along with alternative therapies such as acupuncture. ONS special interest groups (SIGs) will meet at various times throughout Congress to discuss and expand on sessions related to their focus. Check your Congress syllabus for your SIG’s meeting date and location. If you have not signed up with a SIG, now is the time to explore! Come to Philadelphia to rejuvenate your mind, restore your body, and explore the reasons why we love oncology nursing. ✱ Sign Up now Since 1990, thousands of oncology nurses have participated in the Fun Run/ Walk and Wheelchair at ONS’s annual Congress to honor the memory of Ann Olson and to raise resources for the Ann Olson Memorial Scholarship Fund.
