You’ll find that the important information from your inventory will fall into one of the following data blocks. A Personal information: Include your name and contact information. Do not list personal data such as age, gender, or marital status. Summary: Give an overview of your background, skills, and experience related to your job objective. Experience and accomplishments: List your work history, discussing employers, positions held, and job responsibilities. Don’t forget to include the committees you’ve worked on or special projects you’ve accomplished. Relevant skills: In this optional section, you may wish to highlight specific skills that might get lost among your job experience, such as central line expertise, budgeting, scheduling, or management. Education: For resumes, your education should follow the job experience section because you are selling your experience rather than your education. For curriculum vitae, however, education should be listed first. Include all college and advanced education, continuing education, and certification. Optional information: Include relevant work or community activities that will help you present yourself as a total person involved in your field or community. Avoid listing hobbies unless they directly relate to your job objective. More information about developing the final version of your resume will be included in part 3 of this series in the April 2008 issue of ONS Connect. ✱ Apply for the Josh Gottheil Memorial Bone Marrowtransplant Career Development Award The Josh Gottheil Memorial Fund for Lymphoma Research was established by Dr. and Mrs. Gottheil in memory of their son, Josh, who died from lymphoma in 1991.
