STAYINGONTOP Put Yourself at Ease During Job Interviews [By elisa Becze, BA, ONS Staff Writer] I f the thought of a job interview intimidates you, don’t worry; you’re not alone. Interview phobia is a common phenomenon. Taking a few simple steps in the days before your meeting can help you to feel more at ease during the interview. • Research the institution and department where you will be interviewing. Peruse the institution’s Web site so you are more knowledgeable about it. • Ask yourself a few questions to help you get the most out of the interview: Envision your first days there—what would you need? What type of learner are you? How could that be supported? Do you have questions about the stability or leadership of the organization? Write down your questions, and bring them to the interview. • Be sure you know where you are going. Get directions or check a map, and plan out your route. Bring along the phone number in case you get lost. • Decide what you will wear a few days in advance of the interview. Be sure that you look professional and that your clothes are neat and pressed. • Organize any materials you want to bring (e.g., your questions, additional copies of your resume) into a briefcase or portfolio. • Eat a small breakfast the morning of the interview. It will help you think more clearly, avoid feeling lightheaded, and even stop your stomach from rumbling during the interview. • Give yourself extra time to arrive at the interview. Arriving late gives a bad impression, so be sure to allot time for traffic and finding a parking space. ✱ Submit Proposed Bylaw Amendments by September 1 The ONS bylaws serve as a document that specifies the rules by which an organization is governed. It is a legal and required element when forming a corporation. ONS members can submit proposals for changes to the bylaws. When submitting a bylaw amendment, 10 voting members must endorse each petition for a proposed bylaw amendment. All voting members will receive proposed bylaw amendments as part of the annual ballot, at least 90 days prior to the annual business meeting held in conjunction with the annual ONS Congress. Send proposed amendments to the ONS Board of Directors c/o the Executive Team, 125 Enterprise Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15275-1214 USA or e-mail executive@ons.org.
