Research has shown that regular exercise has a variety of benefits, including weight reduction, decreased stress and anxiety levels, and W lower blood pressure and cholesterol, all of which can reduce the risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. The recommended amount of exercise is 30 minutes of moderate-intensity activity five days a week. That time commitment doesn’t sound like much, but when you look at your hectic schedule you may wonder how you will ever fit it in. The answer is to break the activity into smaller time blocks. Just by making small adjustments to our daily routine, we can achieve our exer- cise goals. Consider the following options to incorporate exercise into your daily life. • Take the stairs instead of the elevator. • Walk or bike to work or the store. • Walk the dog. • Join a fitness center or sign up for a class such as yoga, spinning, or dance. • Participate in a walking or running event in your local community. • Walk around your neighborhood or workplace during breaks. • Do housework or work in the garden or yard. Whatever you decide to do for exercise, choose an activity that is fun to do. This will increase your odds of sticking with it. To track your progress, keep a record or journal of your activities, and remember to reward yourself when you meet certain goals. Good luck! ✱ No Pain at the Pump Thanks to the Member-Bring-a-Member Campaign These days, filling your gas tank is enough to put a damper on an otherwise great day. ONS is ready to put a smile back on your face, though. All you need to do is recruit one new ONS member by October 31, and we’ll enter you in a drawing for a $500 BP gas card. That’s it.
