Orlando Museum of Art
It's easy to get caught up in all of the excitement of Orlando's
amazing attractions, however, taking some time to explore the
city's thriving arts and culture scene reveals a different side of
the destination that the whole family can enjoy.
Sculpture Gardens. Today, guests can explore the restored
home, learn about its history and tour its scenic gardens.
Also worth a stop if you're in the area are the Winter Park
History Museum and the Hannibal Square Heritage Center.
HISTORY
MUSIC
Before the theme parks and hotels, Orlando was a land of
cowboys, pastures, and rolling hills covered with citrus trees.
Learn more about Orlando's past at the Orange County
Regional History Center. This Smithsonian Affiliate takes
visitors back through the city's history, from the famous
sinkhole that swallowed an entire block to what life was like
here-before air conditioning-in a Pioneer Cracker home.
Built in 1927, the center itself is a historic downtown landmark.
Whether you prefer classical or classic rock, there is no
shortage of live music venues and organizations in Orlando.
The official home of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, the
Plaza Live Theatre also hosts numerous musical acts of all
genres. The Bach Festival Society of Winter Park offers a
festival in tribute to its namesake each February and shows
throughout the year feature visiting artists. University of
Central Florida and Rollins College also offer many music
programs on an ongoing basis. To check out up and coming
talent, there's the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra, or enjoy
regional and national acts at venues such as Hard Rock Live
and House of Blues.
The Casa Feliz Historic Home Museum located in Winter Park
was designed by acclaimed architect James Gamble Rogers II.
Guests can tour this beautifully restored Spanish farmhouse,
which also holds special events throughout the year.
Just a few miles away is the Capen-Showalter House, which
dates to 1885. One of only a few buildings surviving from the
city's founding, the home was cut in half, floated across Lake
Osceola and installed at the Albin Polasek Museum and
