CEO Perspective By David B. Bennett, CAE SPOTLIGHT ON GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS The Association would like to encourage all of our members to get politically involved at the local level of government. The Association’s Public Policy Committee, of which Randy Hillman is the Chairperson, is endeavoring to tackle issues that have an impact on real estate and your livelihood as a REALTOR®. The Osceola County Association of REALTORS® supports candidates based on where they stand on key industry related issues. Building power and influence in our community requires our membership to be involved at all levels of government. The Public Policy Committee has appointed committee members to be identified as Liaison Team Members for the following: • City of Kissimmee • Renee Clark • Cheryl Grieb • Rosebud Kinkead • Robert Loos • Martin Nichols • City of St. Cloud • Mark Baker • Dale Settles • Celebration • Poinciana • Tim Weisheyer • Robert Loos • Four Corners • Sean Ferguson • Osceola County • Daisy Lopez-Cid • Carol Ann Burnette 4 • Martha E. Parra • Cheryl Grieb • Osceola County School Board • Tim Weisheyer • Sean Ferguson • Jenny Morrison • Martin Nichols Some recent areas of involvement that the Committee has undertaken are: • City and County Budget/Finances • Lake Toho Development • Property Taxes • Commuter Rail • CRA Master Plan • Lynx Bus transfer station in Kissimmee • St. Cloud Preserve apartment community We are keeping our eyes open on some other community issues that we plan to delve into such as: • Kissimmee Lakefront Redevelopment • Destiny Development at Yeehaw Junction • Osceola School Board Superintendent • Access Osceola Channel • Economic Development I hope this gives you a clearer picture of what your Association and in particular, the Public Policy Committee, is doing to make sure REALTORS® are involved and giving them a voice to our esteemed members of local and state government.
