into Norway.

fits right in with Millennial sensibilities.
Colleagues at W.L. Gore, Aßmann and
Kössler founded the Scandinavian Outdoor
Group in 2000 to strengthen relationships
for Nordic brands between outdoor retailers and media in markets beyond the region.
It now includes over 60 Nordic companies.
"Scandinavian brands have a true heritage
in the outdoors. They understand extreme
weather!" says Aßmann. "It's a huge plus to
have Scandinavia itself as a brand. It's a little

Aßmann chose Halti as the first summit
because Finland celebrated its centennial
in 2017. (One technical note: The highest
point in Finland is on Halti, smack on the
Norwegian border; the geographical top of
the mountain sits just meters away in the
neighboring country.) And while Halti is not
particularly high at 4,344 feet, it requies a 66mile round-trip trek far above the Arctic Circle
through the rocks, mud, and mosquitoes of
Lapland to reach. It's a trip where the gear
from those Scandinavian outdoor brands feels
right at home. And the seven-piece alphorn?
It was a symbol to unite all mountain-minded
communities. Aßmann says he plans to bring
it to Galdhøpiggen next summer, too. O.R.
