Brescia University Since its founding in 1950 by the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph, Brescia University has been a significant part of Catholic higher education in western Kentucky. Valued as uniquely created in God’s image, students at Brescia receive an intimate, rewarding educational experience with a student to faculty ratio of only 14:1. Small class sizes provide for rich interaction with professors who are nationally and internationally recognized in their fields and love to teach. True to its liberal arts tradition, Brescia believes in incorporating a holistic nurturing of the student – body, mind and spirit. Individualized attention to educational and spiritual needs produces servant leaders who take what they learn into the community in the spirit and example of Jesus Christ. That same liberal arts tradition is the cornerstone of the university’s exceptional academic programs. A liberal arts education provides exposure to a variety of disciplines, teaches students how to think and reason, how to analyze information and solve problems, and how to scrutinize situations to make sound decisions. Brescia offers nearly 40 undergraduate majors and two master’s degrees. More than 95 percent of students graduating from all pre-professional programs including dentistry, law and pharmacy are admitted into graduate schools. Rev. Larry Hostetter, S.T.D. became the university’s president in 2007. For more information visit www.brescia. edu. Kentucky Wesleyan College Kentucky Wesleyan College has almost 1,000 students and is a private liberal arts institution with 27 majors and 10 pre-professional programs. Graduates are consistently admitted to the nation’s premier graduate schools. The student to faculty ratio is 15:l and 88 percent of the faculty hold terminal degrees. A campus transformation is underway with the addition of new buildings and many new faculty and academic programs, including special education and a minor in entrepreneurship. The college is one of the fastest growing institutions of higher learning in Kentucky with dramatic increases in enrollment in the last four years. Kentucky Wesleyan students experience the consistency of academic excellence in a close-knit, nurturing environment. Students participate in more than 40 campus organizations, and more than 25 percent of all students take part in campus ministries. Campus life offers an active Greek system, and many students offer volunteer time to community service projects. The faith-based college is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Cheryl King, Ph.D., became the college’s 32nd president in 2008. Kentucky Wesleyan is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award baccalaureate degrees.
