INDUSTRY he construction industry has known for years it would face a crisis regarding the pool of skilled construction workers needed to meet the challenges ahead. Horn Industrial Services in Owensboro has joined forces with the Green River Area Development District to alleviate this mounting concern. Horn Industrial Services, in conjunction with GRADD, recently announced the opening of the company’s industrial training center where students “Earn While They Learn.” State-of-the-art equipment and technology highlight the new facility on Ragu Drive in Owensboro. Training, which began in 2008, features hands-on-welding applications, blueprint reading, rigging and construction safety standards – all from a structured curriculum taught by highly motivated, competent instructors. Training is intense and swift and students who successfully complete the program will automatically be placed on company projects to begin their careers with Horn Industrial Services. Since the center sits right on corporate headquarters property, students will feel a part of the Horn Industrial Services team right from the start. This unique learning center resulted from the shared vision of Mike Horn, chairman and president of Horn Industrial Services; Clay Ellis, project manager/estimator for Horn and the late David Wayne Nuckols, Horn’s quality control manager from 1984 to 2008. It was built for those individuals interested in advancing their career opportunities and increasing their skills to earn a very good living in the world of specialty mechanical contracting. T Horn Industries is comprised of Titan Contracting & Leasing, Inc., Titan Fabricators Inc., National Steel Erection, Inc., and Midwest Consulting. Through its diverse construction, maintenance, fabrication and safety consulting capabilities, Horn Industries has provided specialty industrial mechanical services to clients in the power, petrochemical, chemical, paper, refinery and manufacturing industries the world over for 30 years. Horn’s work experience includes scrubbers, absorbers, tanks, boilers, process piping, HRSG units and simple cycle power generating units, just to name a few. The company has now set its sights on growing the best construction welders in the industry to meet future challenges and opportunities. ● The Horn Industrial Training Center opened in 2008.
