TRAVEL PROMOTIONAL SERIES Featured Courses Tahoe Spirit of Golf reno tahoe HoLE 18 BuENa VisTa aT TaHoE DoNNER Tahoe Donner The Tahoe Donner Golf Course is one of the premier golf courses in the High Sierra. With its scenic views, this hidden gem was reborn thanks to an extensive course renovation in 2006; in fact, the course was nominated by Golf Digest magazine for Best Remodeled Golf Course in America. Located just minutes off Interstate 80 in Truckee, Calif., Tahoe Donner Golf Course concludes on a memorable note, with the final three holes making up one of the most satisfying trio of closing holes in the region. 417 Not only is it Tahoe Donner’s finishing hole and one of the most scenic in the area, it is also one of the most versatile. No. 18 can be converted from a challenging 417-yard par 4, to a potentially drivable 291-yard par 4 that offers multiple risk and reward options. “Whether played from the forward tee as a drivable par-4 or from the tips, there is a lot going on, both strategically and visually, with the 18th hole,” says Ed Leinenkugel, Tahoe Donner’s golf pro. “The hole offers plenty of drama, but what makes it particularly memorable is how Trout Creek snakes across the 18th fairway, presenting a natural hazard that truly defines it. Trout Creek flows downhill through the Tahoe Donner property before crisscrossing to the Coyote Moon Golf Course on holes 13 and 14 and then eventually empties into the famous Truckee River. From my perspective, natural water features always trump manufactured water features.” Old Greenwood Opened in 2004, the Jack Nicklaus–designed Old Greenwood was ranked No. 77 in “America’s Top 100 Public Golf Courses” by Golf Digest in 2011. Shaded by towering pines overlooking scenic mountain vistas, Old Greenwood showcases the beauty of the Sierras and is known for its high level of customer service, impeccable greens and professional staff. 230 HoLE 17 aT oLD GREENWooD No. 17 is a long par 3, clocking in at 230 yards. The safe play is usually to the front left portion of the green, taking the bluff and the hazards to the right out of play. a long tee shot is likely to find the mammoth bunker behind the front-toback sloping green. 108 spirit April 2013
