assist in creating some lifelong memories for you and
your family, but it’s medically proven to enhance your quality
of life both today and down the
road. According to the 2008 Physical
Activity Guidelines for Americans
from the U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services, regularly
scheduled physical activity or exercise aids in bodily systems functioning better, prevents chronic health
issues such as heart disease, cancer
and diabetes, and promotes weight
loss along with enhanced mood.
Unfortunately, the National
Center for Health Statistics reports
that only around 30 percent of
adult Americans engage in repeated
physical activity during available
time; more alarmingly, another
roughly 40 percent don’t perform
any leisure-time physical activity
of any kind. All of this sedentary
behavior comes with a cost, both to
our health and our wallets (in the
form of paying for expanded health
care). Per the Centers for Disease
Control, studies comparing inactive
people to individuals who regularly
commit to physical activity reveal

costs that could exceed $70 billion.
The message is clear: Staying
active is critical to living a healthy,
happy lifestyle.
