There are
more than
700
springs in
Florida.

There’s plenty to gush about
in the Sunshine State, but one
particularly splashy subject
is its abundance of natural
fountains, which outnumber those in any other state
(and some countries, too).
Subterranean rivers in the
Floridan Aquifer pass through
porous limestone, resulting
in aqueous pools that provide
year-round recreation. With
temps that consistently
hover around 72 degrees,
the springs are a gathering place for everyone from
swimmers and snorkelers to
kayakers and scuba divers.
Among the species of wildlife
most frequently spotted are
manatees, otters, osprey, and
eagles. Just watch out for the
occasional Florida gator—
and we’re not talking about
the Tebow variety.
