Take notes. r EC rE aTI oN In four or five hours, you can take a visually stimulating walk or ride. Golf is one of Florida’s signature experiences. With 1,000-plus courses—more than any other state—there’s no shortage of tee times. The winter months and the daytime highs of 75 to 80 degrees make Florida the perfect home course for many professionals and a getaway for avid amateurs. “I think it’s what really defines Florida golf: those winter months where you can still take advantage of all the options in front of you for some of the best value in the country. You can play good, substantial golf for not a lot of money, yearround,” says Matt Ginella, a recent transplant to the Orlando area and travel insider for The Golf Channel. One of the most talked-about is Streamsong. The 36-hole course is built on the remnants of a Central Florida phosphate mine. Tall sand dunes, molded by wind and fringed in native grasses, create natural borders for golf holes and low-lying lakes. Streamsong is “in the middle of nowhere,” Ginella says, but only an hour from either Orlando or Tampa.
