Though recognized as the top city in the world for hot-air ballooning-a mustdo for any first-time visitors-this charming getaway provides plenty to do for those who prefer their excursions to take place on solid ground. SIP We know just the thing to bring a twinkle to your eye: Make your way to Gruet Winery where some 15 varieties of sparkling wine have earned this family-run company the attention of oenophiles around the country. The winery is run by a brother and sister duo hailing from the Champagne region of France, and you might think hefty price tags would accompany their sophisticated pours-but most of the wines sell for under $20, including the Gruet Sauvage, which finishes with a bright, crisp acidity. Worry not, though-once you take your seat inside this tiny gem's high-ceilinged dining room and dig into rotating menu creations like the chickpea fries, you'll see why a little extra planning is well worth it. At Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm, a cozy B&B set among lavender fields, guests can't wait to score a table at La Merienda. Then you'll feel right at home at Sandia Resort & Casino, where stunning views of the What do you get when you throw together hackberries, cattails, agave, crawﬁsh, and yucca? Just some of the ingredients that go into the savory dishes concocted at yet another one of the state's James Beard- nominated restaurants, The Curious Kumquat. Situated in a funky 1870s house in Silver City, about 250 miles south of Albuquerque, this former grocery (called the "Quat" by locals) is sure to delight even the most discerning of diners.
