A WISH COME TRUE US Airways teams up with Make-A-Wish to make it happen. Remember the anticipation of the trip, the excitement during takeoff, the taste of the bubbly soda pop the flight attendant served, or the butterflies in your stomach when you peered out the window at the land 30,000 feet below. You can give children with lifethreatening illnesses lifetime memories of their own through Wishes in Flight, a Make-A-Wish program that allows frequent flyers to donate their miles to children whose wishes require air travel. Since its founding in 1980, MakeA-Wish has granted wishes to more than 240,000 children in the United States and its territories. If a child's wish includes traveling to their dream destination, Make-A-Wish will get them there - whether it's Hawaii, New York City, Paris, Australia, or the Bahamas. Because 74 percent of wishes require air travel, Make-A-Wish relies on donations of frequent-flyer miles. And those extra miles could help change a child's life. "Medical professionals say wish experiences can improve children's state of mind, make them more willing to comply with treatment requirements, and can ultimately improve their physical health," says Josh deBerge, a Make-A-Wish spokesman. "We know a wish-come-true is a powerful thing in a child's battle against their illness." Donating miles is an easy way to help children in need experience that special hug with their favorite themepark character, a dip with dolphins, or their first roller-coaster ride. Nyiah has a life-threatening hematological disorder, and Hawaii was the perfect place to push away her worries. Each year, Make-A-Wish grants 10,000 wishes that require travel, which means frequent-flyer miles are a critical resource-a resource you can easily donate. http://www.wish.org/usairwaysmiles http://www.usairwaysmag.com
