The Tel Aviv Museum of Art’s recently opened Herta and Paul Amir Building was designed by American architect Preston Scott Cohen to mimic the city’s geometric Bauhaus architecture, with 430 exterior white cement panels creating an angular look. Inside, the space shifts with the changing light, a result of the 87-foot-high “Lightfall,” which features stairs and ramps that spiral around five floors before reaching a skylight. Another architectural superstar is the Design Museum Holon, which opened in March 2010. Designed by Ron Arad, the building is made of rust-colored, curved steel bands meant to draw visitors into the space. This isn’t a museum where guests are mere observers.
