Located in Orangeburg, Claﬂin is the oldest HBCU in South Carolina and the state’s ﬁrst to welcome all students regardless of race or gender. The school, with some 2,000 students, offers a broad-based education in liberal arts and sciences. Claﬂin combines its curriculum with practical internships and other career-focused programs to produce well-rounded students. The faculty’s emphasis is simultaneously teaching and research. Such rigor pays off. In recent years, 100 percent of graduates from the School of Education earned state certiﬁcation and teaching jobs, while 85 percent of School of Business students are employed within three months of graduation.
