Center Stage in Orange County The Barclay brings bold performances to Southern California. Instead, the Barclay will celebrate its reputation for diverse, innovative programming with three U.S. premieres this fall. The theater has long been known as a favorite venue among both performers and patrons. Its 756-seat auditorium - Cheng Hall - is intimate, offering excellent acoustics and views of the stage. "The Barclay stands out from other venues in the area because of our diverse programming that speaks to many backgrounds and all ages," says Doug Rankin, the theater's president. Along with bringing international artists to Southern California, the Barclay established one of the foremost ﬂamenco dance festivals in in North America. On Oct. 11-12, the Barclay will host the Michael Clark Company's ﬁrst U.S. performance. Clark, who trained at London's Royal Ballet School, has made waves with his avantgarde choreography, including a production set to the music of David Bowie. Now the man hailed as the "punk prince of the dance world" by the Financial Times is coming to Southern California. Icaro, Daniele Finzi Pasca's mythical production about escape, has been performed throughout Europe. On Oct. 24-25, it will make its long-awaited U.S. premiere. And Canadian playwright Rick Miller will bring BOOM to the Barclay on Nov. 29-30 for its national debut. This multimedia-rich show tells the story of Baby Boomers through the music of the generation.
