Entertainment. # Sun Link Tucson Modern Streetcar Connecting the city’s eclectic attractions, link by link I Streetcars at University and Tyndall BY MARTHA-PAGE ALTHAUS t’s no secret that Tucson has a lot to offer. And starting in fall 2013, it’ll be easier than ever to explore. The Sun Link Tucson Modern Streetcar will travel a 3.9-mile loop, connecting the city’s major activity centers and encouraging new development en route. Starting at the University of Arizona’s Health Sciences Center, the circuit will travel through the UA campus, Main Gate Square, 4th Avenue, downtown, and end in the Westside Mercado District. With streetcars running every ten minutes, the Sun Link system will include eight allelectric streetcars, and its 18 stops will offer immediate access to some 100 restaurants, 150 shops, 30 bars, 20 entertainment venues, 30 museums and galleries, and more. From UA, the system will help the 40,000 students and faculty navigate the city with ease, and also allow the campus to grow. Just outside campus, the Main Gate Square district is home to locally owned shops and restaurants. Sun Link travels through a charming historic neighborhood to its next stop, 4th Avenue: a six-block area with eclectic shops, diverse architecture, and tree-lined streets. Then it’s on to downtown Tucson with its variety of shops, restaurants, performing arts venues, and more. The far west stop is in the Mercado District, a revitalized area with mixed-use developments, restaurants, and more. As Tucson’s largest ever transit construction project nears completion, the city is already seeing its impact.
