Talent is genetic in the Pabst family, whose art galleries depict life in vivid color. The talented family creates art with distinct styles, playing with bold colors, dramatic landscapes, Mediterranean hues, and lots of texture. “The other day, Cara brought in a new piece,” Christine says. “Charles took one look and said, ‘That ﬂower needs to be white.’ Cara said, ‘You’re right! That’s exactly what it need- The Signature Gallery 220 Forest Avenue Laguna Beach, CA 949.376.4244 thesignature gallery.com ed.’ All the while, I don’t know what they’re seeing; they have that artist’s intuition.” But Christine has an instinct of her own, and it’s evident on the walls of their gallery: her nose for exceptional artists. “Charles and I just understand that elusive thing — the thing that people have to have in the art they collect,” she says. “We get those artists.” With ﬁve children, 17 grandchildren, and two more The Signature Galleries in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Santa Fe, New Mexico, the Pabst family just keeps growing. The director of their Laguna Beach outlet, Jessica Fry, is now an “honorary daughter,” with an eye for ﬁne art and a knack for making fun. The gallery sits above a bistro in the arts district on Forest Avenue, where Fry curates an upbeat collection and hosts a calendar of events including monthly First Thursday Art Walks, where you can come in, grab a glass of punch, and become a part of the family.
