engage Window or Aisle? Chatting with a Frequent Flyer Chuck Tatelbaum, a bankruptcy attorney in Fort Lauderdale, travels the world representing lenders. And in his free time he’s a professional clown. How long have you been an attorney? I’ve been doing this for forty-six years. I started right after I got out of the army, and I have no intention of stopping. How did you become a professional clown? Chuck’s Travel Tip ALWAYS PUT YOUR SHOES ON LAST ONCE YOU GET THROUGH SECURITY. IT SERVES AS A REMINDER THAT YOU’VE GOT ALL OF YOUR OTHER PERSONAL ITEMS. From the time I was a kid, I loved the circus. My generation didn’t have a lot of television growing up, so my parents and grandparents took me to the circus in Baltimore, and I loved it. One of my clients is Macy’s, and I have a good relationship with them. After I won a big case on their behalf, they wanted to do something for me so I told them I’d love to be a clown. They sent me to their Clown University with clowns from the Big Apple Circus. I did well enough to be invited to walk in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade for the past two years. What do you enjoy most about clowning? local parades, and I volunteer for hospitals. But as an attorney, I usually travel two to three days a week. What’s your favorite part of flying? I don’t meet very many happy people in my normal job, but as a clown I can make people happier. Do you travel much for clowning? The interesting people I meet, from business people to tourists. And I also get to go to interesting places. Last month I was in Istanbul, Frankfurt, and Lisbon. Do you have a favorite destination? Not much. Other than Macy’s, I’ve done some DIVIDEND MILES Insider EVERY TIME YOU FLY WITH A STAR ALLIANCE MEMBER AIRLINE, YOU EARN DIVIDEND MILES TOWARD PREFERRED STATUS. v Internationally it’s a tie between Hong Kong and Istanbul. Domestically, I love Chicago. I enjoy most cities I visit. I like to go out and meet the local people and not just stay in the hotel. I usually ask the flight attendants for recommendations on what to do in each city. What’s your favorite US Airways perk? With Star Alliance Gold Status you can enjoy additional comfort and peace of mind in over 1,300 airports around the world. These invaluable extras include: I I I I Thank goodness for US Airways Clubs. They’re a haven. They offer a place to sit and work comfortably and quietly. It’s also nice to have someone helping you if your flight is delayed. The clubs take the angst out of flying. I know that no matter what issue or problem may come up, I have someone helping me.
