The village also has heated sidewalks to eliminate slippery snow, and escalators (rather than stairs) at every turn. But if Beaver Creek has a resort signature, it's the free, freshbaked chocolate chip cookies handed out on the slopes at three o'clock each afternoon - nearly a half million each winter. Of course, the perfect family ski vacation requires more than these niceties. The resort has one of the world's best and largest ski schools, where instructors lead unique semiprivate lessons capped at just three students - less expensive than private instruction, but much more personal than group lessons. While the learning areas at most resorts feature "magic carpet" lifts, Beaver Creek has a three-minute-long beginner gondola so kids can better learn to ski or snowboard before riding chairlifts. Because there are so many moms with kids in Beaver Creek is home to the annual Men's World Cup Downhill race, and adventurous guests can test for themselves the steep faces of the Birds of Prey course. ski school, the resort created complimentary twohour women-only mountain tours and instructional sessions. The resort covers more than 1,800-acres with 150 trails served by 25 lifts and plenty of black and doubleblack options. Beaver Creek is home to the annual Men's World Cup Downhill race, the only one in the country, and adventurous guests can test for themselves the steep faces of the Birds of Prey course. Last season, 17 acres of expert terrain were added to create a second Women's World Cup downhill racecourse, the new Kestrel, for the 2015 World Alpine Ski Championships. For experts, the best bet is the extreme backcountry-style Stone Creek Chutes, something many visitors don't even know about. Beaver Creek offers a turnkey vacation experience for all abilities. Almost all lodging is in the main village, with the notable exception of the newly renovated Ritz-Carlton in the secluded Bachelor Gulch base area.
