In fact, Wrigley Field - the venerable downtown Chicago home of the Cubs since 1916 - inspired the new ballpark's design. "One of the most unique features will be the left-field party deck, which is designed to be reminiscent of the rooftops outside Wrigley," says facilities general manager Justin Piper. There will even be a replica of the famous marquee where fans can put their name and take a photo. But the fans have never been deterred by location: They've created their own version of Wrigley Field in Mesa for generations. Unofficial team mascot Ronnie Woo Woo's distinct chanting could be heard in all corners of the ballpark, and an ice-cold can of Old Style beer was never too far from reach. So it's no surprise that Cubs Park is already being referred to as "Wrigleyville West." Go West! And with the addition of three spectacular new training facilities in Glendale, Goodyear, and the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, it's also a matter of keeping up with the Joneses.
