Dan was the business columnist for this magazine for ten years before leaving to work as a columnist for Newsweek and Slate. Dan’s depth of knowledge in history, business, and economics is remarkable, and his insight into the nexus of these three subjects is rare. Knowing Dan as a realist, never swayed by popular opinion, hyperbole, or emotional response, it was with great interest that I read an early version of this book.
