It’s family fun everyone can enjoy — no matter the age. “We see people who came here in the late ’50s, who come back with their children and grandchildren,” says marketing director Cathy Robbins. Younger children can barely contain their excitement when they see the trains and hear their whistles. #12 Tweetsie, the park’s first attraction, was brought up the mountain on a flatbed truck assisted by two bulldozers in 1957. Thousands turned out to greet the locomotive then, and today’s visitors are as thrilled as ever. “Trains just hold a special magic for children,” says Robbins. Open from mid-April to November 2, Tweetsie regularly hosts special events. This time of year brings the spectacular July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza and July’s Cool Summer Nights, when the park is open on Saturdays until 9 p.m. In October, The Ghost Train® Halloween Festival turns the cheery locomotives into glowing skulls that howl through the darkness, pursued by ghosts and ghouls. Not scary enough? Check out the Freaky Forest, Haunted House, and Black Hole. Little ones can trick-or-treat, enjoy rides, and attend the Tweetsie Palace Spooktacular Show. Whether playing cowboy, train conductor, or sheriff, kids’ imaginations run wild at Tweetsie. Adults just might find theirs going a little wild, too.
