Northwest Arkansas Museum, where you can learn the history of the Daisy BB gun (see p. 81). And fishermen, mark your calendars: Nearby Beaver Lake hosts the Walmart FLW professional fishing tour in April. “In Rogers, our motto is ‘Where Possible Lives,’” says Allyson Dyer, executive director of the Rogers Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Monday through Friday, you’ll see our city bustling with business leaders from around the nation. Then on the weekends, Rogers transforms into a haven for those craving an escape from the every day.” Booming Bentonville Just north, the city of Bentonville is transforming itself into an artistic haven. Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art has so far attracted almost a million visitors from all over the world, quite a feat since it only opened in late 2011 and it’s off the beaten track from major art centers. The concept of the museum began in 2005 at the hands of philanthropist Alice Walton, daughter of Walmart founder Sam Walton. Six years later, the museum opened in a stunning building designed by world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie. The beauty of the native forests surrounding it forecasts what awaits within, masterpieces ranging from early American portraits to contemporary pieces. Of course, Bentonville is first known as the home of the world’s largest retailer, Walmart. The Walton family and Sam Walton’s beginnings in the retail industry come to life at the Walmart Visitor Center Museum. Expect interactive displays and unique exhibits — and a soda shop! (see p. 108). Nearby on the northwest corner of the downtown square sits 21c Museum Hotel, itself an architectural wonder (see p. 104). And not to be outdone, one of the most comprehensive collections of Native American Eureka Springs Victorian architecture 62 july 2013 usairwaysmag.com phoToS courTeSy of (clockwiSe from lefT) eurekA SpriNgS ADverTiSiNg AND promoTioN commiSSioN, huNTSville chAmber of commerce, rogerS coNveNTioN AND viSiTorS bureAu, SpriNgDAle chAmber of commerce story of those who helped shape Ozark history, the museum also features a research library with over 500,000 photographs of Ozark life. Farther north, the cities of Rogers and Bentonville fairly burst at the seams with positive energy. Rogers hosts numerous meetings and conventions at the John Q. Hammons Center, one of the region’s finest meeting facilities. And the shopping can’t be beat: At the Pinnacle Hills Promenade, you’ll find Arkansas’s only Cabela’s and numerous stores such as Coach, Sephora, Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma, and much more. The Pinnacle Hills shopping center, located near the convention center, is an outdoor bonanza of boutiques and eateries offering everything from frozen yogurt to P.F. Chang’s. Downtown Rogers is brimming with antique stores, locally owned restaurants, and brick-lined streets. It’s also home to the Daisy Airgun http://www.usairwaysmag.com
