Northwest Arkansas
Beaver lake is not just for
fishing. Expect lots of
water-sports action, too.
N
orthwest Arkansas is home to
the world’s largest retailer and a
world-class art museum, but city
living is just part of its appeal.
Just look out your airplane window as
you fly into Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport to glimpse its other side.
From the sky you’ll see a patchwork
quilt of pastures and farmland, federal
and state parks, and national forestland
with ribbons of rivers, waterfalls, and
lakes winding through this Ozark
Mountain countryside.
This is an outdoorsman’s paradise.
And while paradise may be a place of
contentment, it’s not one of idleness.
Get ready for year-round open-air
excursions: fishing, floating, boating,
birding, biking, hiking, hunting, horseback riding, backpacking, skydiving,
and zip-lining.
Add it all up and it’s clear that
Northwest Arkansas does its part to live

up to the state’s official tourism slogan:
The Natural State.
Adrenaline Rush
Adventure seekers, this region’s for you.
The new Ozark Mountain Ziplines in
Eureka Springs offers a canopy tour
that soars through hardwood forests
and over limestone cliffs. The zip lines
are 200 feet off the ground and some
of the cables are 1,800 feet long.
Looking for even more high-flying
thrills? Head to Skydive Skyranch in
Siloam Springs, where licensed instructors will take you on a tandem
skydive. You and your instructor will
be harnessed together with a special
parachute, and once the plane ascends
to nearly 10,000 feet, you jump!
Hit the Trails
If you prefer your feet on the ground,
the area also abounds with walking
trails. The new Razorback Regional
Greenway is a 36-mile-long, primarily
off-road circuit that extends from Bentonville to Fayetteville. The trail links
dozens of popular community destinations including six downtown areas, the
University of Arkansas, the corporate
headquarters of Walmart, J. B. Hunt,
and Tyson Foods, arts and entertainment venues, historic sites, and parks.
Also linked by city trails is the
16-mile Slaughter Pen Mountain Bike
Trail in Bentonville, where any level of
rider can hop on single-track with
special features like log rides, drops,
and jumps through forested rocky
hillsides. Don’t miss the tabletop
jumps, bermed turns, and a wall ride
at the free-ride park.
To escape civilization all together,
head to the area’s state parks and camp
out or stay in a cabin. All four parks
have visitor centers with exhibits that
