Picture Perfect I The City of Bella Vista lives up to its name. By Nancy Oakley magine a place known for its jaw-dropping beauty — mountains, woods, waterfalls, and abundant wildlife. A place where there are affordable homes for all lifestyles, and incidents of crime often number fewer than 200 in a year. No, this isn’t a Norman Rockwell painting, but the very real, very stunning, and — according to NeighborhoodScout — America’s fifth-safest city, Bella Vista. True to its Spanish name, “beautiful view,” Bella Vista inspires artists and art lovers. It’s a stone’s throw from the spectacular Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, and many of its woodland trails lead right to the museum. But long before there was a Crystal Bridges, there was the Bella Vista Arts & Crafts Festival, which turns 46 this October. The fair is the premier event of its kind in Northwest Arkansas, with some 325 vendors selling pottery, stained glass, textiles, jewelry, and much more. This month, you’ll feel like one of the neighbors at Bella Vista’s Fourth of July celebration, where residents gather for fireworks and fellowship. Then kick off the fall at the inaugural Hay Days Festival (September 6–7). This popu- lar event will have all the elements of an autumn festival that people love — live music, races, a barbecue competition — and it all goes to a great cause. Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter and Court Appointed Special Adoption (CASA), among other children’s charities, will receive 100 percent of the festival’s proceeds — proof positive that for the City of Bella Vista, beauty comes from within.
