And in November, more than two dozen museums, restaurants, and shops in historic Old Town join a community-wide celebration of Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, that ends with a candlelight procession winding from the Whaley House to El Campo Santo cemetery to make offerings to Old Town's earliest families. Also in November is Art San Diego, a contemporary art fair in which galleries from the U.S., Canada, Europe, Latin America, and Asia showcase paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, videos, and cutting-edge multimedia artworks. But any time of the year is a good time to check out the art of creative living, San Diego-style! The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego has locations downtown and in La Jolla. Check out their schedule to have a blast with TNT (Thursday Night Thing), an ongoing presentation of progressive visual arts and entertainment scheduled several times a year. (The next one is Oct. 3.) Also downtown is the colorful neighborhood of Little Italy, which hosts San Diego ArtWalk in April and is home to other events throughout the year, including NoLi nights, a brand new walkable quarterly event showing off the district's galleries, boutiques, artists, and craftsmen. Is music your thing? Tune in at the Normal Heights neighborhood with annual festivals as well as live venues that book rising stars year-round. Be sure to check out the Soda Bar and Lestat's Coffee House. The Gaslamp Quarter rocks with bars and nightclubs featuring live music, and the iconic House of Blues is located just a few blocks away. A tour of San Diego neighborhoods isn't really complete without a stop in La Jolla, known as the jewel of San Diego for its beautiful beaches and charming, Mediterranean-style layout.
