PHOTOS COURTESY OF PLUM CREEK WINERY Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Plum Creek pioneered crafting premium wine from Colorado grapes, and remains one of the state's oldest wineries. Over the years it has stayed true to its roots, locally growing and sourcing all its grapes solely from Colorado. The Phillipses chose Palisade for its mild and temperate climate, assuming correctly that if the area were suitable enough for its renowned fruit orchards, wine vineyards would thrive. And thrive they did. In Plum Creek's first year, only 400 cases of wine were produced. These days, up to 13,000 cases are produced, depending on the winter weather - and the winery's reputation is only improving. Wine enthusiasts, novices, and connoisseurs alike are welcome to visit Plum Creek for a tour of the winery facility or for a few sips in the Tasting Room, open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The beautiful scenery is enough of a draw - endless rows of grapevines framed by the rugged Grand Valley - but the award-winning wines will keep you coming back.
