Selections from the
Permanent Collection
on view at MOCA Grand
Avenue, ongoing
programs for all ages, and innovative digital
media projects such as the recently launched
MOCAtv, the first and only contemporary art
channel that is part of YouTube's Original
Channels. These offerings dramatically extend
the museum's footprint by engaging audiences
around the world in new arenas of exchange
about contemporary visual culture.
Changing selections from the collection are
always on view at MOCA Grand Avenue.
Though its collection traces art from the postwar period to the present, its monographic and
thematic exhibitions have shaped art and culture as it's happening.
The museum has presented nearly 400
groundbreaking and critically acclaimed exhibitions, from timely retrospective shows on
international artists such as Fischli & Weiss
(1987), Cindy Sherman (1997), and Andy Warhol (2002), and locally based artists of international repute such as Edward Ruscha (1990),
Barbara Kruger (1999), and Allan Kaprow
(2008), to some of the most significant themed
exhibitions of recent years including Helter
Skelter: LA Art in the 1990s (1992) and Art in
the Streets (2011). MOCA has not simply been
ahead of the curve but has defined it - and
continues to do so.
The museum has also engaged the visual
culture that defines the city through shows that
connect art with film such as Hall of Mirrors:
Art and Film Since 1945 (1996), and Kenneth
Anger: Icons (2011); art with fashion, including
Rodarte (2011) and Rudi Gernreich (2012); as
well as architecture and design shows with
important examinations of the works of Gehry
(1988) and Rudolph Schindler (2001).
It is through its innovative programs that
MOCA builds its audience and remains a vital
institution in Los Angeles, for both residents
and tourists. And it is through the incredible
support of this audience that MOCA continues
to advocate and educate, to challenge and
engage, and to push art forward one artist and
one visitor at a time. To join MOCA today,
