celebrates, the Ronald Reagan
Presidential Library and Museum
is larger than life. In fact, it's the
largest of all such libraries.
Occupying some 240,000 square feet in Simi
Valley, 40 miles northwest of Los Angeles,
its scale is impressive. But despite its largerthan-life exhibits, the museum connects with
everyday people - much like the man who
founded it.
The most viscerally impressive exhibit
here is Air Force One, which enjoys its own
90,000-square-foot pavilion. The massive
Boeing 707, in which Reagan logged more
than 660,000 miles, served every U.S. president
from Gerald Ford through George W. Bush.
Visitors can step aboard this "flying White
House," an aircraft that was vital to the president's method of face-to-face diplomacy.
Smaller but equally striking is the library's
full-scale replica of the Oval Office. Decorated
as it was during Reagan's two terms, the room
seems infused with a gravity of purpose (offset
