Today, The Wende boasts a collection of more than 75,000 pieces - everything from consumer products like Cold War-era radios to drawings; graphics; sculptures; and iconic political symbols such as ﬂags, military uniforms, and medals. A centerpiece: the 11 segments of the original Berlin Wall, ten of which comprise the longest section in one location outside Europe. The Wende also collects objects beyond the realm of most institutional mandates; Brigadebucher, or workplace diaries from the period, are among the most compelling items. In a little over a decade, Jampol's dream of furthering public knowledge about Cold War- era Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union has become a museum beloved by both the immediate community and scholars worldwide. In November 2012, the city council of Culver City granted The Wende a 75-year lease of the city's decommissioned Armory building and surrounding property, a historic space totaling 12,600 square feet. And with rapid growth and The Cold War era was fraught with neglect and isolation, and historical remnants have been notoriously hard to come by. continued public interest, the increased exhibition room will only create more opportunity for The Wende to advance its founders' vision. The museum offers free public access to its galleries between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. every Friday, with vault tours at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., and additional tours by appointment. The Wende frequently holds special events and public programs throughout the year, and offers exhibitions at various offsite locations like the Craft and Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. As both public and scholarly support for The Wende Museum continues, the legacy Jampol dreamed of establishing proves a reality.
