since thrilled audiences with performances
throughout the U.S., Mexico, Canada, and
South Africa. The Los Angeles Times has called
their work "pyrotechnic physicality." Experience the orixa for yourself at their Ford Amphitheatre performance on July 27. viverbrasil.com
Celebrate Dance
Jamie Nichols knows that the underdog has a
lot to prove. That's why she founded Celebrate
Dance, an annual production spotlighting
emerging dance companies and choreographers. In eight short years, the show has already
presented 42 companies to more than 11,000
viewers. Los Angeles Weekly writes, "She's not
quite Google, but producer Jamie Nichols certainly is a one-woman search engine for anyone
who wants to know about the LA dance scene."

Invertigo Dance
Invertigo Dance
Theatre has heart.
One of the leading dance theater
companies in
LA, Invertigo creates
intensely beautiful yet
funny performances night
after night. Their mission to
explore human connection
reveals itself in whimsical performances on stage, and in their
Dancing through Parkinson's
program, offering weekly classes
for people affected by the disease. Above all, Invertigo dancers craft stories that reach the
audience. "I believe that dance theatre offers
an infinite palate of possibility," says director
Laura Karlin. "It can blend comedy, tragedy,
and everything in between." invertigodance.org
Lula Washington Dance Theatre
Lula Washington founded her dance company
and school in South LA in 1980. It has since
trained thousands of inner-city youth, while the
company has performed across the U.S. and in
Russia, China, Brazil, Germany, and Mexico.
The New York Times describes Washington as
"a gifted original," and one who is "doing
something more than right in Los Angeles."
She is renowned for choreographing the Disney favorite, The Little Mermaid, and director
James Cameron's Avatar. See the group at Ford
Amphitheater on August 10. lulawashington.org

Diavolo
The word diavolo, Italian for devil, is fitting for
this group of dancing daredevils. Since the
company was founded by Jacques Heim in
1992, Diavolo has taken dancing to new extremes in performances that are one part
circus and two parts ESPN. On stage, dancers
cavort, leap, and pitch themselves off massive
moving structures. The Los Angeles-based
group has a decidedly global focus, traveling
the world with these dancers' playgrounds.
See Diavolo present its newest work, Fluid
Infinities, live with the LA Philharmonic at the
Hollywood Bowl on September 5, 2013.
