the A-10, too. The baseball team won a schoolrecord 41 games for a second straight season,
and tied for the A-10 title. Men's soccer made a
record 47th NCAA Tournament appearance.
And the Billiken basketball team brought home
its first outright conference crown in 56 years,
as well as the A-10 Championship title.
Student-athletes make as much of an impact
on the Saint Louis community as they do in
the arena, contributing thousands of hours of
service through partnerships with charitable
organizations like the Special Olympics and
Habitat for Humanity. Last year, the Billiken
5K, which raises money for the SLU Cancer
Center, drew more than 300 participants.
"It's a wonderful time to be a Billiken," says
Chris May, director of athletics. "The studentathletes' strategic objectives of educating, competing, and building community are certain to
stir pride in our hearts and inspire us to continue our pursuit of excellence as we prepare
for the future."

egend has it that the Billiken, an elfin
creature with pixie ears and a mischievous grin, brings three kinds of
luck - good, better, and best. In 2013, Saint
Louis University (SLU) became the first
institution in A-10 Conference history to win
league titles in men's soccer, men's basketball,
and baseball in the same academic year.
Which means the SLU mascot is doing his job.
But there's more than just Billiken luck
favoring this nearly 200-year-old Catholic,
Jesuit university. Student-athletes' commitment
to three strategic objectives - educating, competing, and building community - ensures
that they're victorious in every pursuit.
Last year, 17 Billikens were selected to their
sport's A-10 All Academic team, and 41 earned
straight A's during the fall or spring semester.
And in the fall 2013 semester, the 300-plus
Billiken student-athletes achieved an overall
departmental GPA of 3.27.
SLU is a competitive powerhouse within
The Saint Louis
