That brief period saw the Minutemen reach heights previously unknown in Amherst: NCAA Tournament berths, No. 1 national rankings, and a trip to the NCAA Final Four. It was a success that cast a long shadow over the program for decades. Now, though, Kellogg is carving out his own niche, and fans could not be more excited. "The hardest thing for new coaches is having to learn in front of everyone," Calipari recently told Scott Gleeson of USA Today. "Kellogg's job is way harder now than it was when I was there because you have these expectations." Fans are excited to see their Minutemen return to the summit. But for Kellogg, in his sixth year at the school, the journey is especially poignant: This season, he gets the chance to step out of Calipari's shadow and establish a new legacy of UMass glory.
