Clockwise from left: Girl Scouts on a scavenger hunt; playing a matching game; campers arrive for The Fed Experience Summer Camp Challenge; an exhibit charting the growth of living standards “It’s layered, and people experience it differently,” says Angie Gimby, exhibit specialist. “Kids love getting their pictures taken and watching themselves appear as part of the exhibit. They dive right into the games. Others enjoy videos and immersive displays about the history of our economy.” The Fed Experience serves as a valuable resource for teachers to reinforce what students learn in the classroom, but tours and lessons are just one part of the Fed’s extensive exhibit programming. The Bank also offers a youth summer camp program and special events for the general public. “Our visitorship has been very diverse,” says Melanie Rose, senior manager of the Economic Education program. “We all make choices every day, and these choices are important to our economy. The Fed Experience allows us to tell the story in a way that has wide appeal.” The Fed Experience is such an inviting, engaging way to tell our story and improve economic and financial literacy. —Matt Martin, senior vice president Before visiting, go to the Web site — not just for the fun games, but to plan your experience. Groups of six or more are required to register in advance. Along with a better understanding of their connection to the economy, visitors leave with a deeper understanding of how the Fed supports growth of living standards over time by promoting a stable economy. Matt Martin, senior vice president, sums it up: “The Fed Experience is such an inviting and engaging way to tell our story to our communities and improve economic and financial literacy, especially as students reach the age when they see themselves as part of the economy.” 701 East Byrd Street Richmond, VA 804.697.8110 thefedexperience.org Admission to The Fed Experience is free, and hours are weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. except federal holidays. usairwaysmag.com NOVEMBER 2012 83 http://www.thefedexperience.org http://www.thefedexperience.org http://www.usairwaysmag.com
