Behind the scenes, CenterStage’s Bright Lights Education Initiative uses integrated studies to boost children’s academic and social success. “Our extensive educational partner ships reach students across the greater Rich mond region,” says Parison. “The program aims to reinforce the importance of the arts in a child’s entire learning spectrum.” Innovative programming teaches real skills through the arts; children might learn about the civil rights movement through jazz, experience collabora tion by making music with classmates, or prac tice public speaking by performing poetry.
